Port Townsend Leader Censors Port Townsend Woman, as is their Pattern and History to only allow one side of any story or issue. Here is Julie Jaman’ DENIED Letter to the Editor.

“Showering after my swim at Mt. View Pool, I heard a man’s voice. Peeking out I saw a man in a woman’s bathing suit watching little girls pull down their swimsuits In order to use the bathroom. “Get out of here,” I said.

This is the incident that caused a Y staff person to condemn me as discriminatory and banned me forever from using the pool – the pool with binary changing areas that my family has supported and used for 35 years. I sense I have arrived at the center of this topsy turvy world.

There is no signage on the door informing pool patrons that men will be using the women’s shower/dressing room if they identify as women. There is no place at the pool for women and girls to use who do not want men watching while they shower and dress.

I spoke with a Port Townsend police detective and with the Y’s CEO, Wendy Bart. This, so far, is not a legal incident. However, the CEO provided some information of concern. Ms. Bart told me she assumes the posted “pride” signs indicating the Y welcomes all people are adequate for women to know crossdressers and men who identify as women will be using the women’s dressing/shower room. And she told me that it is the law not to discriminate against such people and that she was standing by her staff person’s decision to exclude me from the pool.

However, there is no way around discriminating against someone in this sex classification vs. gender identity issue when it comes to modesty, dignity and safety. Someone is going to be trespassed. This time it was me: the pool manager, with no inquiry for my well being or concern for what I saw and while I was still in the shower, told me I was discriminating against this man and booted me from the pool.

“Pride” signs act as a euphemism allowing men into the spaces women have always trusted as safe from the eyes of men. The Olympic Peninsula Y is remiss in not posting clear signage on the dressing room doors and for not providing a unisex or family place for those who want to mix it up.

City of Port Townsend Mayor David Faber Announcement on Women’s Rights in response to the recent YMCA Trans Woman Changing Room Incident.

We ALL have a RIGHT to Say NO to anyone in the area where we are naked, to say anything else is violating and abusive period. To choose the rights of one person over another is NOT equality, not inclusive, and is down right abusive.
Port Townsend Washington Mayor David Faber is, in my opinion and personal experience, an evil abusive pervert. Pervert defined as: “alter (something) from its original course, meaning, or state to a distortion or corruption of what was first intended.” A while back I was wholeheartedly supporting the TRUTH about a local Port Townsend Homeless man attacked and stalked by a large group of people including police and government employees. I was defending the Law and the Truth. I was standing up for human rights and human dignity. I am a Woman. I am a Lesbian. David Faber commented on the Michael Allmain Case online and sexualized my comments, he stood with the wrong side of the law and bullied me. He is NOT a GOOD guy in ANY sense of the word. Mayor Faber’s abusive comments to me, and perverse nature of his comments are, in my opinion and experience signs of an abuser, of a narcissistic gas lighter and in no way in support of those who are being bullied, harassed, stalked or suicidal. In fact Mayor Faber joined in to bully me, Reverend Crystal Cox, and further push a local homeless man Michael Allmain toward suicide. No matter how much I pleaded for help, I was ignored, the man nearly died. Faber is a DEMON through and through as far as I see it. Mayor David Fabor does not care about the Law, nor does he care about those bullied and suicidal. The Michael Allmain Case CLEARLY points that out, where he mocked, gas lighted and bullied Michael and he bullied and abused me for supporting him. David Faber, in his announcement today on where he and the City of Port Townsend Stands is Pure Demonic LIES. Don’t Believe any of it is Sincere.

"Censored: Men’s Eyes in Women’s Shower Room" Port Townsend Free Press Article." Port Townsend Leader yet Again censoring the Public.

"Editors Note: In the Free Press‘s ongoing efforts to expose censorship by local media, we are publishing a letter to the editor written to The Leader by long-time Port Townsend resident Julie Jaman. The letter, printed in full below, was submitted on July 28th following her experience at the Mountain View Pool, a City of Port Townsend facility operated in partnership with the Olympic Peninsula YMCA. The Free Press reported in detail on the episode the letter describes. Other information outlets have since picked up the story, including The Post Millennial, The Distance, and the feminist REDUXX.

Not only did The Leader not publish Jaman’s letter, Jefferson County’s weekly “newspaper of record” provided no coverage of any kind about this significant incident.

The violation of a biological woman’s right to privacy and her subsequent banning from the pool led to a police report, protests and counter-protests at the Mountain View Commons, as well as dozens of public comments at the August 1st Port Townsend City Council meeting.

Rather than publish Jaman’s letter and/or a news story, however, this week’s Leader featured a public relations article promoting the Y on their front page.

A call from Jaman to the editor was never returned, she says. Once again we see censorship by the legacy media in deference to local institutions and their biases.

Below is the letter The Leader chose not to print. The title was provided by Julie Jaman as part of her submission.

KOMO News on Port Townsend YMCA Trans Woman Issue. "YMCA bans grandma after she demanded transgender staff member leave women's locker room"

"PORT TOWNSEND, Wash (TND) — An 80-year-old woman in Washington State has reportedly been banned from her local YMCA after she demanded that a transgender staff member, who was overseeing a group of young girls during their bathroom time, be removed from the women's locker room.

Julie Jaman, a resident of Port Townsend, Washington for over 40 years, told the Port Townsend Free Press she was concerned the transgender staff member was watching little girls as they undressed. Jaman reportedly heard a "male voice" in the locker room after one of her routine swimming exercises at the facility on July 22, and upon investigating, she found the transgender staff member.

As Jaman explains it, the locker rooms feature communal showers that feature little privacy. Each shower stall only features a light curtain that, as the Port Townsend Free Press puts it, doesn't "provide much of a shield from the eyes of others." Jaman recalls hearing a man's voice while she was showering. She turned to see four little girls and a person she believed to be a man.

There were gaps in the curtain and there I was, naked, with soap and water on me, and this guy, right there very close to me. I asked, ‘Do you have a penis?’ He said, ‘That’s none of your business.’ That’s when I told him, ‘Get out of here, right now,'" Jaman recounts to the Port Townsend Free Press.

The YMCA’s aquatics manager then reportedly told Jaman that she was "discriminating," telling her "you can’t use the pool anymore and I’m calling the police.” Jaman recalled being stunned, not remembering if she even dried off, and says she attempted to leave. The aquatics manager was near the facility's entrance and again clashed with Jaman.

During the confrontation, another YMCA employee told Jaman she couldn't leave, according to the Free Press, adding the aquatics manager echoed the sentiment. Jaman then reportedly said to both employees she was going to contact the police, which she did, later filing a complaint.

In an obtained police report, Port Townsend Police Officer Marc Titterness said that Jaman "had an emotional response to a strange male being in the bathroom and helping a young girl take off her bathing suit." However, as the police investigated, it was revealed another person had called them about the incident, saying Jaman was refusing to leave the YMCA and also told them that "[the transgender staff member] was in the bathroom with a child in the day camp and Julie asked if she had a penis and started screaming at her to get out."

YMCA’s Marketing and Communications Manager, speaking with The Post Millennial, claims Jaman wasn't banned for this incident alone, but rather "repeatedly violating the Olympic Peninsula YMCA code of conduct, specifically, using disrespectful words or gestures towards YMCA staff or others; and abusive, harassing and/or obscene language or gestures towards YMCA staff or others."

Jaman reportedly has a list of previous offenses at that YMCA location, but this incident with the transgender staff member was "unforgivable and extremely harmful," according to the same communications manager.

Wendy Bart, the CEO of the Olympic Peninsula YMCA, shared additional details with the Free Press. Bart claims she stands behind her employees' actions in their confrontation with Jaman, and that the 80-year-old woman told the transgender staff member "you’re going to stick your f---ing penis in those little girls," a statement Jaman denies making.

"I am an 80-year-old woman and I do not talk like that." Jaman told the Substack page "The Distance."

The Free Beacon added that protestors gathered outside the YMCA after news of Jaman's ban broke. The YMCA also told the publication that many who gathered outside for the protests were in support of the ban."

"Senior Woman Banned From Local Pool After Expressing Concern Over Male in Women’s Washroom" By Anna Slatz August 4, 2022 REDUXX

"By Anna Slatz August 4, 2022 REDUXX

A senior woman who expressed discomfort regarding a trans-identified male in the women’s changing room at her local pool has been banned from using the facilities she frequented for over three decades.

Julie Jaman, 80, had been a guest at the YMCA-run Mountain View community pool in her small town of Port Townsend, Washington for over 35 years. Speaking to Reduxx, Jaman revealed that on July 26, she witnessed a trans-identified male using the female locker rooms at the pool, and became concerned due to the fact he appeared to be watching the little girls as they changed out of their bathing suits.

“I was showering [after a swim] and I heard a man’s voice … it was quite deep,” Jaman told Reduxx, “So I looked through the shower curtain. There was a man in a women’s bathing suit, and he was near four or five little girls who were taking off their bathing suits. He was standing there watching them.”

Jaman observed the male through the opening in the shower curtain for a moment. Shocked by his presence and becoming increasingly distressed about his proximity to the children, she quietly asked: “Do you have a penis?” The male refused to answer, prompting Jaman to demand he leave the locker room.

Rowen DeLuna, the pool’s aquatics manager, was in the area at the time, and when Jaman appealed to her to remove the male from the restroom, DeLuna told her she was being “discriminatory” and threatened to call the police.

“She said, ‘you are being discriminatory, you are banned from the pool, and I am calling the police.’ I was totally stunned,” Jaman says, adding that she felt particularly vulnerable, being berated while nude.

She quickly got dressed and left the changing room, immediately moving to leave the building. As she did, DeLuna continued yelling towards her.

“She said, ‘You are not following the [YMCA] values and principles,'” Jaman explained, noting that YMCA staff allegedly attempted to block her from leaving as she tried to go, telling her the police were on their way.

“I said ‘bullshit I can’t leave!'” Jaman scoffs, noting she immediately went to the Port Townsend Police Department, which shares a community complex with the pool. She explained what had happened to an Officer, noting it was extremely emotional for her.

“I kept thinking of those little girls, and it was really affecting me…” Jaman said, beginning to choke back tears, “It is affecting me right now. It was really unreal that would happen.”

The Officer gave her a card with the name of a Detective who was meant to call her later on, but she was ultimately contacted by Officer Mark Titterness, who took a formal report from Jamal on the incident.

The male in the locker room was identified by a local citizen journalist as Clementine Adams, a transgender employee of the YMCA, though Jaman says he wasn’t displaying any indication he was staff.

According to a GoFundMe managed by Adams, he began identifying as a woman in December of 2021, but only announced his transition in April of 2022.

An active GoFundMe managed by Adams seeking funds for “bottom surgery.”

In response to her ban, on August 1, Jaman, who has been an active citizen of Port Townsend for 40 years, chose to stand outside of the pool with a sign intended to inform other women that males were using the women’s facilities inside. A small number of majority elderly women turned up to support Jaman.

On Facebook, trans activists encouraged each other to rally in counter-demonstration, with several showing up with LGBTQ Pride Flags and berating Jaman and her friends.

“They said: You can’t say those things. You’re being a bigot,” Jaman said, “They told men males can be women. I said I don’t agree with [your] ideology. I told them that in all my 80 years I had never run into this.”

While most pool patrons remained politely curious about Jaman’s sign, she says that at one point, a mother had her 9-year-old child come up to her and tell her she was being “hurtful” to the LGBTQ community.

Jaman also contacted Wendy Bart, the CEO of the Olympic Peninsula YMCA which oversees Mountain View pool. While she initially had to leave a message, Bart contacted Jaman later that day in what she described as akin to an interrogation.

“Even after I explained what happened, she kept asking ‘what did you say?'” Implying Jaman was not being forthcoming, “She said ‘that’s not what I have been told,’ and I asked her what she meant.”

Jaman says Bart informed her the Mountain View staff had claimed she had been vulgarly abusive towards the trans-identified male.

“She told me she’d heard I said something to the effect of ‘you’re going to use your penis to f*ck those little girls.’ I am an 80 year old woman! I do not speak that way! I told [Bart] that.”

When Jaman asked Bart why no signs had been posted informing women that males could potentially be in the locker rooms, she says she was told: “‘We post pride signs, and we assume that lets women know what to expect.'”

That same day, Jaman went to the Port Townsend City Council meeting to share her experience and issue a complaint on the community pool’s policy.

In a three-minute speech she gave to the Council, she explained what had happened at the pool on July 26, and requested separate facilities be made available for females.

“The YMCA policies on gender identity use ‘pride’ as a euphemism to prevent discrimination against one group of people but at the expense of another group – women who don’t want to use all-gender bathing or dressing areas,” Jaman said in her address to the Council, continuing: “Just as the City has installed special doors and spaces for handicapped people, the YMCA should provide an all-gender changing area as well as binary facilities to accommodate all patrons.”

Following her speech, Jaman was met with boisterous applause and cheers by other local community members who had attended the council meeting.

But another woman took the stand to oppose Jaman, stating she had driven from a distance to oppose Jaman’s perspective.

“I would just like to state that this individual is not a man identifying as a woman, this individual is a woman.” Rebecca Horasct of Sequim, Washington said, “It is inappropriate in this day and age for people to not recognize what transgender means.”

Following Horasct, a man took the stand to similarly call the gender binary “ridiculous,” and “unscientific,” adding that he found Jaman’s “bigotry deplorable.”

Multiple other citizens took the stand, most in support of Jaman and her concept of an exclusive alternative space for women and girls. One mother who was an active swimmer took the stand to state she felt that “little girls were just going to quit swimming” if they didn’t have an exclusive, safe space.

Mountain View pool has issued a press release in response to the protest, in which it states: “We will not tolerate bias, hatred, or discrimination that leads to the oppression of individuals or communities. We will ensure sustained and meaningful progress toward equity and human dignity for all.

The release also references Washington State Law 162-32-060.

The law states that public facilities must allow individuals access to spaces “that are consistent with that individual’s gender expression or gender identity,” continuing that if an individual expresses discomfort they should be “directed to a separate or gender-neutral facility.”

Reduxx reached out to Erin Hawkins, the Marketing and Communications Manager for the Mountain View Pool, for comment, and was told Jaman was permanently banned because she had violated the pool’s policies “repeatedly.” But when Hawkins was asked what other incidents Jaman had been involved in, and on what dates those incidents occurred, she was unable to give any specific details.

While Hawkins asserted Jaman had been extremely rude towards the trans-identified male staff member, she confirmed there was no evidence of what the pool staff had claimed she had said beyond their own self-reported incident writeup. Hawkins stated that the pool staff had not filed a police reported against Jaman, but were planning to in the future as a form of protection from her claims.

Hawkins added that her solution to females who felt uncomfortable changing around males were to use bathroom stalls, which are located in the same gender-neutral area. She also suggested closing the shower curtain was an appropriate solution for privacy and safety.

But Jaman doesn’t find this to be an acceptable guidance.

“The law says that if someone does not want to use the gender neutral dressing or toilet room, they can use an alternative. But it is up to the [pool] to provide that alternative. That’s the law. Last year, they said there was an additional space, but they have misconstrued that.”

On the issue of self-identification, Jaman says she was never active in the gender identity debate, having no form of social media, no smart phone, and limited knowledge of how to use a computer. She calls it a “radical cultural change” that she feels is eroding women’s right to dignity across the board.

Four decades ago, Jaman helped establish the first crisis shelter for women and children in the Port Townsend community after often offering up her own home as a safe space for women fleeing violence.

“We subsequently built Dove House, which was a shelter for women victims. I’ve now been told it’s for everyone. I don’t know if now they let men who identify as women in the women’s sleeping area … they don’t ask for sex anymore, they just ask for gender identity.” Jaman adds that she knows of many areas in the community that have become gender free-for-alls, and expresses concern for how it is being handled.

“I think there is something very wrong with cancelling out what’s a male and what’s a female. There is absolutely no way that a person who is any form of XY can possibly be an XX. There’s just no way.”

Jaman says she has been a Democrat voter, and was active in voter registration drives and anti-war protests in her younger years, but expresses weariness as to how this new push for ‘tolerance’ is manifesting.

“It’s darn-right confusing,” Jaman says. “I am from the old-school. I know what being discriminated is about. I know about human dignity. I marched against the Vietnam war. I know all about racial discrimination against people of color. I know about the need for tolerance … But I don’t get this.”

On her incident in the locker room, Jaman expressed some surprise when she learned Clementine Adams had only begun identifying as a woman within the last few months.

“I have been a woman for all of my 80 years. I don’t intend on changing. But it erases me. Because if that’s a woman… what am I?”

“80-year-old granny banned from YMCA after demanding biological male leave women's locker room where little girls were undressing”

Port Townsend, Wash. police said she "had an emotional response to a strange male being in the bathroom and helping a young girl take off her bathing suit."

80-year-old granny banned from YMCA after demanding biological male leave women's locker room where little girls were undressing

An 80-year-old Washington state woman has been banned from using her local YMCA's public pool after she expressed discomfort with a biological male in the women’s locker room as young girls were undressing.

She was in the shower when she heard a male voice and peeked out to find a biological male in a women's swimsuit engaging with little girls who were undressing.

The biological male was reportedly with girls from the day camp, overseeing their bathroom activities. Addressing the Port Townsend City Council on Monday, Julie Jaman, a resident of Port Townsend of about 40 years, described the situation she had been in after her regular swim at the Mountain Valley Pool.

"In an effort by the city and the YMCA to apply the neo-cultural gender rules at Mountain View Pool dressing, shower room facilities, women and children are being put at risk," Jaman said.

Jaman said that she had been showering after her July 26 swim at the pool, when she heard "a man’s voice in the women’s dressing area." She said that she saw "a man in a women’s swimsuit, watching little girls pull down their bathing suits in order to use the toilets in the dressing room."

In an email from the YMCA’s Marketing and Communications Manager to The Post Millennial, they said that the staff member was not "engaging" with these girls, but rather escorting them to the dressing room.

According to the Port Townsend Free Press, Jaman, who had been in the shower when she realized what was happening, hidden behind thin, sheer shower curtains, asked this person, revealed to go by the name Clementine Adams, "Do you have a penis?"

"None of your business," Adams reportedly responded.

"Get out of here, right now," Jaman replied.

"You’re discriminating and you can’t use the pool anymore and I’m calling the police," YMCA aquatics manager Rowen DeLuna told Jaman after she requested that Adams leave the room, according to the Port Townsend Free Press.

In an email from the YMCA’s Marketing and Communications Manager, they said that Jaman was not permanently suspended for this incident alone, but rather due to "repeatedly violating the Olympic Peninsula YMCA code of conduct, specifically, using disrespectful words or gestures towards YMCA staff or others; and abusive, harassing and/or obscene language or gestures towards YMCA staff or others."

The manager said that the facility has experiences past issues, but that the incident in the changing room was "unforgivable and extremely harmful."

As Jaman attempted to leave the building, DeLuna reportedly told Jaman that she was not abiding by the YMCA’s principles and values.

Another YMCA staffer reportedly blocked Jaman from leaving, to which Jaman said, "Bullsh*t! I’m going to the police right now. I want help and I need it immediately."

Jaman went next door to the police, and later received a call back from Port Townsend Police Officer Marc Titterness.

In a police call report obtained by the Port Townsend Free Press, Titterness said that Jaman "had an emotional response to a strange male being in the bathroom and helping a young girl take off her bathing suit."

This call report also contained call records made by an anonymous person from the YMCA, who told police that "Clementine was in the bathroom with a child in the day camp and Julie asked if she had a penis and started screaming at her to get out."

In another call, this person said that Jaman had "been asked to leave and is refusing."

Yet another call said that Jaman "was screaming at employee and calling names and refusing to leave."

Jaman had also spoke with Wendy Bart, the CEO of the Olympic Peninsula YMCA, who stood by the actions of her employees.

Bart said that a staff member claimed Jaman said to Adams, "You’re going to stick your fucking penis in those little girls."

According to the Substack "The Distance," Jaman denied ever saying this, noting "I am an 80 year-old woman and I do not talk like that."

"There is no signage informing women the shower room is now all gender and what that means, nor have parents been informed of what they can expect with these new policies," Jaman told the City Council.

Per Washington state law, "All covered entities shall allow individuals the use of gender-segregated facilities, such as restrooms, locker rooms, dressing rooms, and homeless or emergency shelters, that are consistent with that individual's gender expression or gender identity."

"The Y has not provided any dressing, shower room options for women who do not want to be exposed to men who identify as women," Jaman added.

The YMCA manager told The Post Millennial though that within the changing rooms, there are private stalls that close and lock for individuals that would like additional privacy within the changing rooms.

Jaman continued, "The staff seems to have received little professional training on how to handle reactions to such a radical cultural change, particularly for the most vulnerable, older female patrons and children who may be exposed to inappropriate behavior.

The dignity and safety of unsuspecting women who have trusted to use these facilities for many years. This is not right."

In response to her banning, Jaman and supporters have taken to protesting outside of the pool, arguing that that the YMCA has promised the addition of all-gender bathrooms, but that instead, "took over the traditional binary areas."

The following day, on August 2, the YMCA manager told The Post Millennial said that around 60 people had congregated outside the facility, but that a large portion of this group came out in support of the facility’s actions.

"The Y will uphold and respect this law in regards to YMCA staff, members, and program participants that use Mountain View Pool. At the Y, our goal is to provide an atmosphere free from discrimination, hatred, derogatory or unwelcome comments, intimidation, or actions based on an individual’s sex, age, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or any other legally protected status," a press release from the YMCA states.”

Port Townsend YMCA Says "We will not tolerate bias, hatred, or discrimination that leads to the oppression of individuals or communities." Yet they do, seemingly against white elderly presumably strait women who don't want a man in their changing area. Who has more Rights? Why Not Equality?

The Port Townsend YMCA Flat out Lies that they are Inclusive and supportive without discrimination. The YMCA lies that they do not allow "hatred or derogatory or unwelcome comments".

The YMCA claims, "equity and human dignity for all, they clearly did not provide equality in this case."

YMCA NOT FOR ALL.
ONLY FOR THE RIGHTS OF THE FEW

The Port Townsend YMCA Says:

"At the Y, our goal is to provide an atmosphere free from discrimination, hatred, derogatory or unwelcome comments, intimidation, or actions based on an individual’s sex, age, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or any other legally protected status."

Yet the Jefferson County Washington YMCA allows hatred, bullying unwanted comments, violent words, angry aggressive words, against the women who do not want to dress in the same room with a trans woman that has not transitioned.  The YMCA clearly discriminated against one party on their identity, their expression, and their legally protected class.

Is the Woman in this case a protected class for being a woman? elderly? or perhaps she was a victim at some point in her life? Does she have ANY equal rights? NOPE only the Trans community, or trans woman has the rights and the born women who are uncomfortable for any reason, they get abused, bullied, shamed, berated and threatened.

Talk about entitled, hypocrisy and double standards.

the YMCA allows and seems to actively participate in bullying this woman, calling her a bigot, a trans hater and a transphobe just because she does not want a penis carrier in her changing room. And this has the trans community and supporters attacking the women and those of us who support her. This is not #forAll

It is not about being a bigot or a transphobe, it could be any reason that a woman don't want to dress next to a biological male. Maybe a women was abuse, raped, molested, or traumatized. There can be a lot of reasons she don't want to change in the same room. And the number one reason is she does not need a reason.

Yet the Bullies Violently Call out "bigot" "transphobe" and gang stalk her on social media. People stick up for her human rights, her equal rights and these same people are seen on social media attacking anyone that defends her rights. This is no where near Equality.

It is not OK for the Port Townsend YMCA to be inciting violence against this women and anyone who supports her. All you have to do is read a local thread and see the violence put upon this woman, and the YMCA participating, condoning and even thanking the "support".

Port Townsend YMCA SAYS:

The YMCA Says "We will not tolerate bias, hatred, or discrimination that leads to the oppression of individuals or communities." Yet they are tolerating this and encouraging it.

The YMCA is actively joining with many in the trans community to dish out bias, hatred and discrimination that CLEARLY without a doubt is an "

"The Y will uphold and respect this law", which laws and for whom?

They sure seem to pick and choose who gets bullied, berated, defamed, and taunted. They are actively encouraging bullying this woman and anyone who supports her, just go look at the social media on this. Transphobe, Bigot and all manner of names slung, is this Lawful? or part of the YMCA inclusion Policy?

Why "protect" the "rights" of one party only?

Why claim to protect one party from "bad things" while encouraging it upon the other party?

 Port Townsend YMCA Says:

"Thank you to everyone who has come to support the Y today at Mountain View. Your support means more than we can express in words. ❤

As a letter to our community, we'd like to put out the following statement in regards to information circulating about what happened at Mountain View Pool:

The Olympic Peninsula YMCA is an organization that welcomes all people. At the Y, we strive to create communities that are inclusive and socially just so that all people can thrive.

We will not tolerate bias, hatred, or discrimination that leads to the oppression of individuals or communities.

We will ensure sustained and meaningful progress toward equity and human dignity for all.

On Monday, August 1, a small group of community members expressed their concerns regarding the Mountain View Pool changing rooms specifically related to a transgender person.

There was a small gathering of people outside Mountain View Commons discussing this issue.

In addition to the universal changing rooms at the pool, there are a men’s and women’s locker rooms provided with private changing areas as well as showers with curtains at the pool.

The Y operates in accordance with state law that gives people the right to access the locker rooms, changing rooms, and bathrooms that aligns with their gender identity, per WAC 162-32-060.

The law states, “entities shall allow individuals the use of gender-segregated facilities, such as restrooms, locker rooms, dressing rooms, and homeless or emergency shelters, that are consistent with that individual's gender expression or gender identity.”

The Y will uphold and respect this law in regards to YMCA staff, members, and program participants that use Mountain View Pool. At the Y, our goal is to provide an atmosphere free from discrimination, hatred, derogatory or unwelcome comments, intimidation, or actions based on an individual’s sex, age, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or any other legally protected status.

If you have questions about the YMCA’s policies regarding Mountain View Pool, please contact info@olympicpeninsulaymca.org."

YOU HAVE NO SAY. YOU WILL SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP.

IF A PENIS CARRYING INDIVIDUAL WANTS TO CHANGE NEXT TO YOU OR WATCH YOU CHANGE AND YOU FEEL UNSAFE FOR ANY REASON, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO FEEL UNSAFE.

YOUR RIGHTS DO NOT MATTER. THEIR RIGHTS MATTER, PERIOD.

THE MAN IDENTIFYING AS A WOMEN MAY BE UNCOMFORTABLE OR FEEL UNSAFE AND THE WOMAN UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE PENIS CARRIER IS THROWN OUT, BANNED, LABELED HORRIBLE NAMES. ALL BECAUSE SHE DID NOT WANT TO CHANGE NEXT TO A PENIS FOR HER OWN PERSONAL REASONS.

To Me this is NOT Equality, this is rape culture, abuse and the epitome of the Patriarch. It is FORCE. Men have more rights, period and women best had shut up or be left out, ridiculed, taunted, abused, banned, gas lighted and called crazy and all manner of evil names, back to the dark ages. Women have no rights. All because they want to feel safe and not be naked with a man part present.

The man identifying as a woman simply has more rights then the woman, period, and there is nothing that us women can do or say. If we feel unsafe, we have no where to turn, no rights, we simply must not participate in their society, their rules.

Just as rape victims, molestations victims, we must simply stay silent on the matter, our rights have No Value. It is a TransMans world period. This is Not Equality. This is not kindness nor inclusive, this is abuse period.

This is NOT all inclusive. This is NOT a Safe Space for ALL. You have no rights at the YMCA, you will do as they say period.

Port Townsend YMCA bans Woman for Not Wanting to Dress in Same Room as Biological Male

 POST MILLENNIAL TWITTER THREAD

“80-year-old granny banned from YMCA after demanding biological male leave women's locker room where little girls were undressing”

In October of 2015 the YMCA changed it’s transgender policy, I guess complaints worked back in those days. Port Townsend YMCA Trans woman Issue August 2022.

Here is the "My Northwest" Article from 2015.

Now they claim to follow “state law” but for both parties? Or just the trans individual?

“YMCA explains changing its transgender policy after more than 1,000 complaints”

Following complaints from the public, Bob Ecklund, President and CEO of the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap county, issued a statement on Oct. 5 saying the organization is modifying the policy for transgender individuals in locker rooms and restrooms in “family facilities.” Ecklund said the change was to ensure youth are not exposed to the opposite sex in their locker room.

Ecklund said the new policy states that “transgender members in transition will use private locker rooms for dressing and showering. Transgender members may use standalone restrooms that align with their gender identification.” The change applies to: Gordon Family YMCA, Mel Korum Family YMCA, Lakewood Family YMCA, Morgan Family YMCA, Tom Taylor Family YMCA, Bremerton Family YMCA, Haselwood Family YMCA.

For locker rooms at “adult facilities,” transgender members may use locker rooms and restrooms that align with their gender identification. That applies to Tacoma Center YMCA and University Y Student Center.

“We understand transgender individuals who are in transition often face a dilemma on where to change and shower, and the Y strives to be a place to be safe and inclusive of everyone in our care,” Ecklund wrote.

“I want to emphasize this narrow revision of the policy is focused on dressing and showering spaces only, as they are the most sensitive spaces in our facility, especially as it relates to children.”

Michelle Larue, Senior Vice President of Marketing with the Pierce and Kitsap YMCA, told KTTH’s Todd Herman on Wednesday that there had previously been no policy for the “fairly low” number of transgender members, some who had been with the YMCA for 10 or more years, and that there have been no incidents of inappropriate exposure or use since the initial policy change in April.

Larue said the YMCA received “quite a reaction” since the policy went public, receiving more than 1,000 comments on the issue. Larue said they didn’t broadly inform the public about the initial policy change out of respect to the transgender individuals and that the intent was not to keep anyone in the dark.

“We didn’t have any reason we felt to inform the masses about this change when there was seemingly no effect on the way that we were operating or using our locker rooms,” she said. “I can tell you today, we’ve heard that concern loud and clear and we apologize if we misled or made any members feel like they were in the dark. That was not our intent by any means and today we are communicating broadly on Facebook and through email, and here, as much as we can.

“The number of people our transgender members was so small, and we had not had any incidents, nor have we since, of inappropriate use or overt exposure in our locker rooms, we just didn’t feel it was necessary to broadcast at that time. And again we are communicating now and making sure our members know our policies and locker room practices based on their feedback.”

Herman said he understood both perspectives on the issue, but asked Larue, “Father to mother, Michelle, should a 15-year-old girl feel OK with the possibility that she might shower next to someone who is biologically male?”

“As you’ve heard from our members, just as we’ve heard, they are all over the spectrum, right?” Larue responded. “Everyone has a different opinion on that. And so that is an individual family decision and we respect their decisions.”

YMCA’s attorney, Sal Mungia, told Herman a sign explaining the policy would likely be placed on the locker rooms at the adult facilities. He said the wordage would be decided “very carefully.”

“This is such a hard subject to be able to put down succinctly,” he said. “It’s a sign, right – you can’t have a bunch of fine print and to get the message across quickly and accurately. So this policy just went into effect, I think it’s going to take some time to figure out a way to convey that message so people can understand it very quickly.”

Ecklund noted in his release that as a nonprofit in Washington State, YMCAs are both “employers” and “places of public accommodation,” and that they are required to comply with all laws regulating employers and places of public accommodations.

“Washington State recognizes transgender rights and prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, which includes gender identity,” Ecklund wrote. “We believe we are both following the law and accommodating our diverse groups of members. We also note this is an evolving area of the law, and we will continue to stay tuned to updates from Washington State.”

ORIGINAL STORY

A policy instituted by the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap counties has one mom worried about her children’s safety.

KTTH’s Todd Herman spoke with Jill, a mother and volunteer at YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties, about the policy enacted in April that gives transgender individuals the ability to choose the locker room he or she feels most comfortable with, no questions asked.

Jill said that her concerns are not an attack on transgender people, but more a criticism of the policy itself, which was never announced to the public or employees. She said the policy allows anybody to walk into either bathroom, which puts children at danger.

“Anybody who might want to go in there, (employees) can’t ask them, they can’t tell them no,” she said. “So any man can say, hey, I’m transgender’ and go in that way.”

“The employees didn’t know about this,” she added. “The public doesn’t know about it. YMCA doesn’t plan to inform the membership or potential members.”

Herman also said he spoke with Michelle Larue, Senior Vice President of Marketing with the Pierce and Kitsap YMCA, who told him that the organization has spent a lot of time speaking about ways to better accommodate the transgender community. A public forum on the issue was held Sunday; an attendee told Herman that approximately 50 people showed up.

Herman said some parents are asking that a written notice be placed at the locker room that informs people that they might encounter people of the opposite gender in the bathroom. He said the YMCA’s response has only been that the organization is committed to inclusion and diversity.

Jill believes the new policy also contradicts portions of the YMCA’s child abuse prevention training, most notably that abuse is more likely to happen if somebody who wants to do harm to children is given access and privacy, and that anywhere a child is scantily clothed or naked e.g. pool or locker room facilities &#8212 the chance of sexual abuse increases. She added that it’s not only children who might feel uncomfortable.

“You cannot blend in when you are not anatomically correct in the opposite sex locker room,” she said. “This is not possible … Do you want an anatomically correct man showering with your wife or daughter? Or how about an anatomically correct female showering with your teenage son?”

“In my opinion, seeing a naked man in my locker room is sexual harassment for me,” she said. “That’s the way I feel about it. This isn’t specifically singling out transgenders, it’s singling out the policy that would allow anybody who wants to abuse it to be in there.”

Michelle Douglas, Executive Director at the Rainbow Center, an LGBTQA community center in Tacoma, said she hadn’t seen the YMCA’s policy and wouldn’t speculate on its implications. She said the Rainbow Center is unequivocal about its stance that people should be free to use the restroom or locker room that they identify with. She said Washington State nondiscrimination laws are not new and that some organizations have moved faster to make updates than others. She said the Rainbow Center still hears a lot of “misguided concerns” about this topic.

“People have lost sight of why they go to the restroom or locker room in the first place, which is to go to the restroom or to change and get ready for work,” she said. “I think there is a lot of fear mongering around these pieces and I just don’t feel that it’s accurate.”

Larue told Herman that people who feel uncomfortable with the change can use one of the YMCA’s private rooms. Herman asked whether fairness is truly being spread around to everyone and that there should be better communication.

FULL STATEMENT

Bob Ecklund, President and CEO of the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap county, issued the following statement on Oct. 5:

A Message to Our Members and Community

The Y’s mission is to serve everyone, regardless of financial circumstance, faith, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender identity. As our community changes, we often find ourselves in the unfamiliar, but remain committed to creating a culture focused on safety and inclusivity.

In April 2015, the YMCA created a policy to demonstrate our commitment to our transgender community. Previously, we had no policies with regard to this community. As a community-based non-profit organization, we are committed to reflecting the diverse communities we serve. We also have a foundational commitment to child abuse prevention.
